About

The Merry Blacksmith specializes in being the source for quality books and design.

We’re a new operation, staffed now mostly by editor, publisher and chief bottle washer John Teehan, but ably assisted by several friends as readers, proofers, copyeditors and art consultants.

While our interests are wide and varied, many of our books will appeal to fans of science fiction, fantasy, horror, comics, and other such fine geekery. We geeks inherited the Earth, and we mean to keep it that way!

While we’ve been professional freelance typesetters and book designers for over ten years, becoming an independent publisher is a relatively new venture. As we get our mojo on here in the spring of 2010, we have grand plans for the future to expand our titles to cover a wide range of interests, and represent the singular attribute of quality. Please take time to explore this site and bookmark us. As the months go on, we’ll be adding more titles and more designs. Don’t forget to follow us on Facebook and Twitter as well.

Where did the name come from?

It’s the name of a traditional Irish reel–a favorite of the publisher who likes to spend at least one night a week, armed with a banjo, playing reels, jigs, hornpipes and polkas with a bunch of other like-minded musicians. The Merry Blacksmith always reminds him of good times.
